Obituary Format: Audio CD Death Metal Editorial Review
The live album "Back From the Dead" by Obituary has received a mix of reviews, with the bulk of feedback highlighting a generally positive reception among fans of the band and the death metal genre. This album is celebrated for its high sound production quality, which some listeners appreciate, arguing that it captures the essence of Obituary’s classic tracks while showcasing John Tardy's unique vocal style and Donald Tardy's impressive drumming. Many reviewers note that the album blends the band's earlier works with modern production techniques, enhancing the listening experience despite a decrease in the raw brutality characterizing some of their earlier releases like "Cause of Death" and "Slowly We Rot." Fans appreciate the fast-paced energy that this album brings compared to previous works, making it more engaging to listen to. The crowd presence is minimal, leading some to feel that the album feels more like a re-recorded best-of collection rather than a conventional live experience, but this does not deter many listeners who enjoy the precision of the performance. Reviewers suggest that those who appreciate the band’s evolution and the growth in Tardy’s vocals will find this album rewarding. The album resonates well with long-time fans and newcomers alike, especially those who have enjoyed Obituary's more recent offerings. Despite a few criticisms regarding its adherence to a more polished sound and a lack of live improvisation, the Consensus seems to reinforce that "Back From the Dead" is a well-crafted representation of Obituary's style, appealing to those who value sonic clarity paired with familiar setlists. **
