The Jet JMD-18 milling drilling machine uses r-8 collets and comes with a r-8 tapered adapter for a standard Morris 1/2”chuck, making it ideal for milling. It is not recommended if you don’t intend to mill though, and if you want to use stepper motors with software to operate the machine, you would need to purchase the various parts needed separately for a hobbyist project. It is very heavy, sturdy and well made. Recent models are not as good as the older ones, and the machine comes wired for 110V by default but can be altered to work on either voltage. Customers have been happy with the quality of the Jet JMD-18 milling drilling machine, with some stating it performs well even when climb milling. One reviewer mentioned that they had a difficulty doing precise holes in steel using magnetic drills but had no problems with the Jet JMD-18. The machine doesn't have a variable speed switch but is built to last. There are accessories such as power feeds and digital readouts available, which can be added if desired.
