It is screened and keeps out rodents, birds, bats, and most insects. however, it doesn't open or close with temperature nor is it motorized. Although the design is lightweight and nice, the vent is very fragile and thin. The Louvers are vented, but they dent easily. The major issue is that this is designed for new construction install with a 1.5" flashing with 1.5" depth, which could be difficult to use for retrofit purposes.
