Action & Adventure Editorial Review
Forbidden Planet: 50th Anniversary Edition (Dbl DVD) is a remarkable sci-fi classic that showcases a pivotal era for the genre, set against the backdrop of post-war anxieties like the Atomic Bomb and the Cold War. The film stars Walter Pidgeon, Leslie Nielsen, and Anne Francis, featuring innovative special effects and an unforgettable electronic score. As the crew of a spaceship aims to discover the fate of a previous expedition, they encounter Dr. Morbius and the secrets of the Krell civilization. This release includes not only the original features but also highlights the significance of the film, including Robbie the Robot's iconic presence. Viewers appreciate the film's depth, exploring themes of power and survival, while maintaining a captivating narrative that continuously resonates. The engaging plot, tied to Shakespeare’s The Tempest, further enriches its history and cultural impact, making it a must-watch for science fiction enthusiasts.
