- İİ. Mahmutun tahtta oturduğu 1823 yılında, İstanbul Limanına yanaşan bir gemiden indirilen yükler arasında, bir de zürafa vardır. Mısır Valisi Mehmet Ali Paşanın padişaha armağan olarak gönderdiği zürafa, kendisini ilk kez gören İstanbulluların şaşkın bakışları arasında Çinili Köşk Meydanına getirilir. Zürafa, padişahın 27 Kasım günü buyurduğu fermanla görücüye çıkar. Hayvanın ağaçların yapraklarını yiyişi hayranlıkla izlenirken, Habeş Ahmet Ağa hazırladığı senaryoyu başlatmak üzere bağırır: Zürafa müteyemmen ve mübarek bir hayvan olup onu eliyle tutarak bir kere gezdiren Müslüman yeryüzünde hiçbir zarar ve ziyan görmez. Sonra da, hayvandan çok korkan Abdi Beye doğru bakarak şunları söyler: Haydi, Müslüman olan gelsin, zürafayı şöyle bir gezdirelim. Kim bu hayvanı gezdirirse cennete gidecektir.Padişahın memuldür sözü üzerine kendini eller üstünde bulan Padişahın Küpeli Çavuşu Abdi Bey, zürafanın üstüne oturtulur. Abdi Beyin yalvarmalarından, yakarmalarından korkan zavallı hayvan huysuzlanarak İshakiye Köşküne doğru koşmaya başlar.
